About this painting

Broad columns of dusty pink run from the top edge to the bottom of both panels, set on cream and interrupted at mid height by plum-brown blocks and smears of ochre-gold.

On the left canvas the pink stands in the middle, with a slate grey block tucked into its lower left corner; on the right it hugs the left edge while a plum rectangle outlined in ochre fills the other side. The paint is pulled across with a knife in wide, uneven slabs, letting the cream show through in streaks, and quick white and grey lines loop over the top like pencil scribbles.
