About this painting

A head and shoulders face straight out of the canvas, but where the features should be there are only slabs of paint: blush, cream, crimson and tan, laid on with a palette knife in short overlapping blocks. Black knife strokes mark the hair and the edge of the jaw, a single ear shows at the left, and the collar breaks into chips of red and white.

The grey ground is knifed on too, in broad flat planes with lifted edges, so even the background carries texture. A near-white block at the brow is the brightest note, and the face steps down from it into pink and terracotta.

AA#1235 is an original abstract figurative painting showing a face built from thick faceted paint slabs on grey, hand-painted in acrylic on canvas with a heavily textured impasto surface. It is painted to order in any size; the 14 standard sizes run from 20×24 in (51×61 cm) to 60×80 in (153×203 cm). Painting takes about 10 days and delivery 5–7 days by DHL, FedEx or UPS; the minimum order is one piece.

Where it works

A faceless portrait holds people where they wait or linger: the wall facing a restaurant entrance, a boutique fitting area, a members' bar. Hang it at eye level or a touch above so the head meets visitors squarely. Polished concrete, blackened steel and smoked glass echo its grey ground, and a plain wall behind it matters, because busy wallpaper would swallow the knife texture that gives the face its form.

Specified for gallery & retail, restaurant & bar, lobby & reception and living room; it reads as bold and moody.

These share its palette, format and surface, so the three hang as a set: a run along a hotel corridor, a pair either side of a bed with this one between, or one per suite on the same floor.

Sizes & scale

Width × height. These are the sizes ordered most often; any other size is painted to order, with the composition redrawn to your proportions. A common rule: art about two-thirds the width of the sofa, bed or console beneath it.

What affects the price

Trade prices for AA#1235 are quoted per order rather than listed, and come back within one business day. Four things set the figure:

Size
Price follows canvas area. The standard sizes run from 20×24 in to 60×80 in; any other size is quoted the same way.
Finish
Rolled canvas is the lowest-cost way to buy and ship. Stretched, ready to hang, costs more, and a frame costs the most.
Surface
Thick impasto uses more paint and takes longer to dry than flat brushwork, which the price reflects.
Quantity
Volume pricing starts at 10 pieces: the same design for every room on a floor, each one painted individually, or a mix of works.

Shipping is not included in the price; its cost is confirmed with you before the piece ships. Ask for a price on AA#1235 on WhatsApp →

Questions buyers ask

Why does the face in AA#1235 have no eyes or mouth?

In this style of knife portrait the features are left out so the head reads as a person without becoming a particular person. The face is built from colour and the direction of the strokes alone, and each viewer supplies the expression, which suits public rooms where a recognisable likeness would feel too personal.

How do the knife slabs on AA#1235 behave in side light?

They throw shadows. Each slab ends in a raised ridge where the knife lifted away, and a low light from one side lays a thin dark line under every edge, strongest across the face and collar where the paint is thickest. Under flat overhead light the colour carries more and the relief recedes.

Is AA#1235 a print or an original painting?

An original. AA#1235 is hand-painted in acrylic on canvas when you order it — nothing in the iHomeArt catalogue is printed or held in stock. The photographs show an earlier canvas of the same design, so the brushwork on yours will differ slightly.

Will several copies of AA#1235 match across rooms?

They read as a set: every copy is painted from the same composition and palette. Each one is still painted by hand, so the brushwork differs slightly from piece to piece. Progress photos at each stage let you compare them before the next stage starts, and volume pricing begins at 10 pieces.

Will the colours match what I see on screen?

Screens shift colour, so the photographs here are a guide rather than a swatch. You see progress photos or video at each stage and approve a photograph of the finished canvas before it leaves. Moving the palette towards your scheme is normal: send a photo of a paint chip, a fabric swatch or the room on WhatsApp.
