About this painting

Coils of fine parallel grooves loop across a rough white plaster ground, each wound into a tight spiral like cord laid down in rings and seen from above.

Tones deepen as they descend: a steel-teal coil and a combed vertical band at the top, a pale aqua disc cropped by the right edge, a navy half-disc cut by the left, and at the base a large navy spiral that knots into a second one. Between them the white ground is worked into flaky, raised ridges, which makes the even line-work look almost machined by contrast.

Are the spiral rings on TA#1215 raised, or only painted?

They are raised. Each coil is built from tight, evenly spaced grooves that catch light along every ridge, while the white plaster around them is worked in rougher, flaky knife strokes. Under side light the rings shimmer slightly and the ground throws irregular shadow.

Could the navy, teal and aqua coils of TA#1215 be done in other colours?

Yes. The white plaster ground stays as it is and the coils can be repainted in another family, such as terracotta and sand, sage and olive, or charcoal and dove grey. Keeping one dark and one lighter tone, as navy and aqua do here, preserves the top-to-bottom gradient.
