Single white plaster bloom with a gold center canvas art

One white flower fills nearly the whole square, its broad, rounded petals laid in low plaster layers around a small tuft of gold. Each petal is a smooth, gently domed form with a slightly lifted rim, so its outline shows as a thin line of shadow rather than a painted edge. The bloom is open and layered like a camellia, with the gold set a little above and left of centre.

The ground is warm cream, barely darker than the petals, so almost all the contrast comes from relief: across a room it reads as a pale square, and close up it becomes a carved flower.
