Art for Bahrain’s hotels, restaurants and cafés

Bahrain passed 24,000 hotel rooms in 2026, with 39 five-star properties open and 12 more coming, and the openings that matter for art are towers with hundreds of branded residences attached 106110. That favours repeatable room sets over one-off lobby pieces, in interiors mostly designed from Dubai or by international names, with art sourced ad hoc or by a London consultant 767778. This page gives the numbers, the named projects, the scale each space needs and what an FF&E buyer in Manama should ask a made-to-order supplier for.

How big is Bahrain’s hotel pipeline, and who designs it and sources the art?

About 140 hotels and 24,000-plus rooms in June 2026, 16 new hotels adding more than 3,000 rooms between 2024 and 2026, and a five-star tier of 39 open properties with 12 more in the pipeline 106107. Bahrain recorded more than 7.4 million overnight visitors and about 20.1 million nights in 2025 106.

The named openings are almost all towers or resorts with residences attached. Hilton Bahrain City Centre in Seef was scheduled for 1 December 2025 with 594 kitchen-equipped studios, suites and penthouses and four restaurants and lounges 108. Kempinski Bahrain Harbour was expected in late 2025 with 74 guestrooms above 186 branded residences, and Conrad Bahrain Financial Harbour opened in January 2024 as a 30-storey hotel of 98 suites 110. Waldorf Astoria Bahrain Bay is slated for 2028 with 120 rooms and apartments, and its interior designer is not yet named 109. Tivoli and Avani Bilaj Al Jazayer are expected in winter 2026 with about 100 and 110 rooms and suites, and Meliá’s planned Amwaj property pairs 150 keys with 106 residences 111112. Because the pipeline is residence-heavy, hotel art demand is dominated by repeatable guest-room and residence sets plus a few double-height lobby statements, and no source names an art consultant for any of these projects 110.

The design work is largely done from outside Bahrain. Four Seasons Bahrain Bay (2015, 273 keys) pairs SOM architecture with Pierre-Yves Rochon interiors 39. The Conrad was designed by Dubai’s LW Design, which lists it as Best Hotel Lobby Design at the 2025 CID Hospitality Awards, and fitted out by Bahrain’s Kooheji Interiors, which draws on over 1,500 prequalified suppliers 7770. The District at Al Seef by Dubai’s DZ Design was shortlisted at the 2025 CID MENA awards, which shows that Bahrain’s flagship interiors are largely designed from the UAE 76. The largest Bahrain-headquartered hospitality practice found is International Design Associates in Manama, whose Avani Bilaj Al Jazayer interiors were Highly Commended at the CID Awards 2024 7475.

What scale do the lobby, rooms, corridors, restaurants and spa need?

Architectural in the lobby, serial in the rooms. Bahrain’s documented institutional commissions are a 5.4 m sculpture, 125 m² of glass and a 34 × 17 m stained-glass wall at the airport, with paintings commissioned as multi-artist series 3536.

  • Lobby. Four Seasons Bahrain Bay describes sea-voyage interiors “enhanced by a specially curated collection of Bahraini art”, with Dilmun-themed ceramic tiles by Huda Al Saie and a bronze horse in an Art Deco lobby of blues and greens; the fact sheet names no artist count or consultant 3940. Raffles Al Areen Palace, whose collection London’s Artelier commissioned, hangs ceiling-height gold-leaf calligraphic spears, a gold-leaf map of Bahrain and a Cubist-influenced painting by Bahraini modernist Ebrahim BuSaad 41. Read together, these suggest one or two works of 200–300 cm on the reception axis rather than a wall of small frames (inference) 394135.
  • Guest room and suite. Hilton City Centre’s 594 kitchen-equipped units are a long-stay inventory, so guest-room art there is a repeatable-format order 108. No Bahrain hotel publishes headboard-wall dimensions, so the 150 cm room piece in the schedule below is a working assumption. Repetition without two rooms matching is the practical problem, and it is where painted-to-order work fits: iHomeArt paints every piece by hand with palette changes and variations, so a floor can share one composition in three colourways rather than one print in 200 copies.
  • Corridor and lift lobby. No Bahrain source describes corridor art, so this is inference from the tower formats: a 30-storey Conrad or a 594-unit Hilton has a lift lobby per floor that reads at close range, suited to vertical works of 100–150 cm in one series with varied palettes 110108.
  • Restaurant and bar. Obica in Manama, completed December 2024 by Qreative Design, uses hexagonal patterns, marble, mother-of-pearl, scenic wallpapers and a 19th-century mirror rather than paintings as its wall statements 116. Gallery 21 in Adliya, a 2,600 m² complex of four venues, hangs abstract paintings and portraits of Arab celebrities 117. Scenic wallpaper and mirror are therefore the direct competitor to canvas in Bahrain’s restaurants (inference) 116117.
  • Spa. Avani Bilaj Al Jazayer opens with an AvaniSpa and the Waldorf Astoria with a spa and two pools, but neither publishes interiors 111109. The Four Seasons’ sea palette is the nearest reference, which suggests seascape and botanical work in Gulf blue, white and sand (inference) 39.

What do Bahrain’s restaurants and cafés hang, and who buys it?

A foodservice market of USD 1.05 billion in 2025 by one count (USD 1.2–1.5 billion by others), forecast at USD 1.95 billion by 2031, in which chains hold 50.88% of outlets and malls 38.85% of locations, so most F&B art is bought by a few local groups fitting out mall units rather than by independent chef-owners (inference) 120.

The design-led end clusters in three places. Block 338 in Adliya is promoted by Bahrain Tourism as a pedestrian quarter of restaurants, galleries and boutiques 118. Bahrain Harbour, below the Kempinski tower, is adding Roka, Yabany and There Café alongside Gallery B·R, a Spanish family-run gallery of contemporary works and 20th-century design opening at Harbour Heights 119. Fit-out firm Yellow Bricks maps its own commercial work to Manama’s business district, Seef’s retail hubs and Juffair’s hospitality scene 86. None of the twelve Bahrain studios and contractors read for this section mentions art sourcing, so a café owner or F&B group buys its walls through the lead designer or directly 78.

What hangs is either printed or one-off. Bahrain’s home chains sell factory canvas at roughly BHD 20–45 per m², up to a 137 × 297 cm framed piece labelled 'hand painting' at Homes r Us (September 2026) 136168. Between that and the BHD 1,400 per m² local original, no Bahrain-based seller of originals by a named artist at a mid price was found, which is the band a 254 cm made-to-order feature-wall canvas would occupy (inference) 5.

What does a hotel FF&E buyer in Bahrain need from an art supplier?

A route that works without a local art consultancy, proofs the client signs off, local stretching and framing, and repeat pieces that arrive on the fit-out date. Artelier lists a five-star hotel and an office lobby in Manama among its engagements, Dubai’s Art Painting Lab says it has delivered installations across Bahrain and the GCC since 2015, without showing a Bahrain project, and no Bahrain-headquartered corporate art consultancy surfaced 4243. For Bahraini artists, the culture authority keeps a public Artists Directory, and Al Riwaq and the Art Station in Muharraq are the pipeline institutions use 4745.

  • Approval and returns. Bahrain’s returns culture is defect-based: a supplier must replace or refund goods that do not conform to approved specifications, and even Homes R Us excludes custom-made items from its 14-day returns 2425. A made-to-order supplier should promise conformity to approved proofs rather than open returns 23. iHomeArt sends progress photos or video with stage-by-stage approval, and every piece is signed with a certificate of authenticity.
  • Finish and local framing. Fakhrawi Frames (since 1948, workshop in Mahooz) and Bahrain Artistic Frames Centre (1987, three branches) frame and stretch canvas on quotation 3132. Large works can therefore ship rolled and be finished in Manama; iHomeArt also supplies stretched, or framed in gold, silver, black, white or wood.
  • Delivery. DHL’s Middle East air hub is at Bahrain International Airport in Muharraq, and its door-to-door service takes pieces up to 70 kg by courier collection 2928. iHomeArt’s timing is about one week to paint plus 3–7 days transit, 10–13 days door to door, shipped insured and free by DHL, FedEx or USPS.
  • Volume and quotes. Minimum order is one piece, volume pricing starts at 10 and quotes come within one business day. There is no public price list, which matches local practice: neither Albareh nor Hend Gallery publishes one 57151.

Which catalogue cuts fit a Bahrain hotel or restaurant brief?

Textured, sea-toned and metallic work in large formats, from the registers Bahrain’s own painters and hotels already use. Gold, silver and bronze leaf, resin gloss and relief texture recur among the country’s leading painters and match the brass and gold-leaf finishes designers specify 146144. The Four Seasons’ blues and greens and a Bahrain Bay residence in sandy neutrals, turquoise and deep blue set the colour range for waterfront hotels 4078. Bahrain-subject seascapes exist online only as 20–91 cm prints, so a Gulf seascape painted at 150–250 cm is unserved (inference) 134. Figurative work is openly shown in Bahrain’s hotels and galleries, but landscape, seascape, botanical and abstract subjects are the safer choice for guest rooms (inference) 58117.

Questions buyers in Bahrain ask

How many hotel rooms is Bahrain adding, and where?
Bahrain passed 24,000 rooms in June 2026, with 39 five-star hotels open and 12 in the pipeline, after 16 hotels were announced to add more than 3,000 rooms between 2024 and 2026 106107. The named openings sit in Seef, Bahrain Bay, Bahrain Harbour, Marassi, Amwaj and Bilaj Al Jazayer 108109110111112113.
Do Bahrain’s luxury hotels hang local art?
Yes, at the flagship level. Four Seasons Bahrain Bay describes a ‘specially curated collection of Bahraini art’, Raffles Al Areen’s Artelier-commissioned collection includes a painting by Bahraini modernist Ebrahim BuSaad, and The Merchant House hangs emerging Bahraini painters through its rooms 394144.
Who designs and curates Bahrain’s flagship hotel interiors?
Mostly firms from outside Bahrain: Pierre-Yves Rochon at the Four Seasons, Dubai’s LW Design at the Conrad and DZ Design at The District, with Manama’s International Design Associates and Kooheji Interiors the main local practices 3977767470. Art is sourced ad hoc or by a London consultant 7842.
Can 80 guest rooms be supplied without two paintings matching?
Bahrain’s pipeline is residence-heavy, so guest-room art is a repeatable-format order 110. iHomeArt paints every piece by hand to order with palette changes and variations, so one composition can be produced in several colourways across floors, with progress photos, stage-by-stage approval and volume pricing from 10 pieces.
Do Bahrain’s restaurants hang paintings?
Not always. Obica in Manama, completed December 2024, uses hexagonal patterns, marble, mother-of-pearl accents, scenic wallpaper and a 19th-century mirror rather than paintings 116, while Gallery 21 in Adliya hangs abstract paintings and portraits of Arab celebrities across its four venues 117. Scenic wallpaper and mirror are the direct competitors to canvas in Bahrain’s high-end F&B (inference).
What scale does a guest room or lift lobby need?
No Bahrain hotel publishes headboard-wall dimensions, so these are working assumptions: a 100–150 cm (39–59 in) horizontal above the bed, 150–250 cm (59–98 in) in a suite living area, and vertical works of 100–150 cm in lift lobbies, where a 30-storey Conrad or a 594-unit Hilton has one per floor read at close range 110108.
