How big is the UAE hotel pipeline, and who decides the art?
About 25,000 rooms are in the UAE pipeline, over half of the regional pipeline is luxury or upper-upscale, and the art decisions sit with the owner's designer and a short list of Dubai art consultancies 154173. Lodging Econometrics counted 103 projects and 24,985 rooms under development in Q2 2026, third in the region after Saudi Arabia and Egypt and flat on Q3 2025 154152. Luxury and upper-upscale hotels make up about 54% of Middle East pipeline projects and 55% of rooms, the tier that budgets for commissioned art 154. The base is large: Dubai had 154,264 rooms in 827 establishments at 80.7% occupancy in 2025, and the UAE 217,000 rooms and Dh49.21 billion of hotel revenue 158160. Demand softened in 2026: H1 occupancy fell to 58% (Dubai 56.4%, Abu Dhabi 66.8%) and no major hotel completed in Q2 2026, which suggests refurbishments will drive a share of near-term art orders (inference) 162.
Named openings show who designs them. The Lana, Dorchester Collection (February 2024, 225 rooms) has interiors by Gilles & Boissier and more than 50 commissioned pieces 174. Mandarin Oriental Downtown Dubai (November 2025, 259 rooms plus 224 branded residences) hangs regional and international artists along its corridors and desert-inspired art at reception 180. Due in 2026: Baccarat Dubai (144–145 keys, sources differ; interiors by 1508 London), Six Senses The Palm, Kimpton Dubai (280 rooms), Mondrian Abu Dhabi (210–221 rooms, sources differ) and Four Seasons Ajman (74 rooms, 23 villas) 186191192. Then Janu Dubai (2027, 150 rooms, 57 residences), The Hoxton Dubai Media City (230 rooms), Jumeirah Asora Bay (2029, 103 rooms) and Mandarin Oriental Jumeirah Golf Estates (2030, 121 rooms, 97 residences) 185187190182. Wynn Al Marjan Island (1,530 rooms, September 2027) has announced Marc Quinn, Jeff Koons and Jaume Plensa, with art in guest rooms as well as public areas 193. Branded residences belong to the same buying chain: Dubai had nearly 140 projects in December 2024, selling at a 25–50% premium over unbranded product 156157.
Who buys the art. Interiors come from LW Design (300+ hospitality projects; The Dubai Edition, SIRO), Bishop Design, Kristina Zanic Consultants (Gerbou), KCA International (Burj Al Arab) and international studios: Tristan Auer, Wilson Associates and AvroKO at Marsa Al Arab, Woods Bagot at SO/ Uptown, Jean-Michel Gathy at One&Only One Za'abeel 79166959680178165168. Fit-out comes from ALEC FITOUT, Al Shirawi Interiors and Havelock One, the top of Design Middle East's Fit-Out Powerlist 2025 103105104. The art is packaged by consultancies. Capsule Arts (about 25 staff, 150+ projects) supplied 1,518 works for Marsa Al Arab, 655 for SO/ Uptown, 234 plus 3,307 accessories for Atlantis The Royal and 178 for Bab Al Shams 4781164163169. Artelier, Ophelia, Art Painting Lab, Qube and Signature Projects ME cover the rest; Art Painting Lab in Al Quoz painted Capsule's two large lobby canvases at Address Beach Resort 84200835720182.
What scale do the lobby, guest rooms, corridors and spa need?
Lobbies take pieces of 3–10 m, guest rooms take one calm work above the headboard repeated with variation across floors, and consultancies name lobby, spa and bedroom as the locations that matter 16479199.
Lobby and reception. Lobby art is commissioned at architectural scale: SO/ Uptown's lobby columns carry a 10-metre-high lenticular work, Address Beach Resort's lobby has two large abstract paintings conceptualised by Capsule Arts and executed by Art Painting Lab, and Bab Al Shams put its feature work by Mahsa Baraghani behind reception 16482169. The Lana greets guests with sand portraits of the ruling family at check-in and Rove City Centre hung portraits of UAE rulers, so leader portraits are an accepted hospitality motif 17573. For a painted canvas the working lobby format is a 250–400 cm panoramic or a 250 cm vertical beside a stair; a Dubai art-consultancy page says the commonest client error is art that is 'too small, too bright, too plain' 115.
Guest rooms and suites. The rule is one piece per room and coverage of every room type: Capsule's 1,518 works for Marsa Al Arab spanned standard king, twin and family rooms and four suite grades; Bab Al Shams' 178 works covered 115 rooms plus lobby, F&B and corridors, about 1.5 pieces per key (derived) 81169. The Dubai Edition hung a Carolle Bénitah piece in every guest room and left the room otherwise 'free of artworks' 79. Room art is calm by design: SO/ Uptown's narrative moves 'from playful energy in public spaces to calm in private areas' 164. Suites are bigger volumes: The Lana's duplex suites have double-height corner living rooms 174. Repetition is the problem no source solves in print: packages come from six to thirteen artists producing hundreds of pieces, and no two rooms are meant to match 81164170. One approved design painted in several palette variations gives each floor its own piece without a new concept per room, which is where a made-to-order studio fits (inference).
Corridors. Corridors are counted in every package (Marsa Al Arab, Bab Al Shams, Vida Emirates Hills), and Mandarin Oriental Downtown hangs its regional-artist collection along them 81169170180. The only UAE sizing guide found gives hallway lengths of 8–15 m, which take a series of 60 × 80 cm to 100 × 150 cm works at intervals rather than one piece 318.
Spa and wellness. Artelier lists the spa as a key art location and SIRO One Za'abeel used 12 works in the gym and stairwells; with Mandarin Oriental Jumeirah Golf Estates planning a 5,000 m² spa and Six Senses The Palm a 6,000 m² wellness club, spa art is a line of several pieces 199166182191.
What do UAE restaurants and cafés hang?
Restaurants brief art as part of the concept, usually oversized and themed, and cafés are the chains that buy canvas in volume 17255. Atlantis The Royal's ten restaurants share a 234-artwork package under a 'wonders of the sea' narrative; Gastronomy alone has a pizza-paddle wall, a 2,500-piece fruit-and-vegetable face and coffee-cup murals, described as 'big, bold and oversized', and won Best Use of Art in an F&B Project at the CID Awards 2023 163172. Isabel Mayfair Abu Dhabi (April 2026) pairs sequinned floral artwork with hand-painted wallpaper 197. The two Dubai rooms on Prix Versailles' 2025 list, Smoked Room (black brick, mirrors, brass mesh) and Gerbou (camel leather, ghaf-wood chairs), lean on materials rather than paintings, which suggests that in chef-led rooms art competes with the finishes (inference) 198. The Lana's The Gallery restaurant extends the lobby collection and staff are trained to discuss the works 176. Each new tower brings several venues: Ciel has eight and Five Luxe seven 183189. Members' clubs are a related buyer: The Arts Club Dubai opened with commissions from four emerging UAE artists 195.
Cafés are the canvas market. Blenc Art lists canvas art and murals for FiLLi Cafe across '100+ locations' UAE-wide, and the marketplace Artezaar shows paintings at More Cafe 551. Hotel Indigo Dubai Downtown displays over 200 original works by UAE-based artists, all for sale through its concept store, a model an independent restaurant can copy 326. Residential palette guidance applies, sand, greige and warm white with one saturated accent, which in the catalogue points to Textured & Plaster and Abstract for neutral rooms and Colorful florals for cafés 319.
What does a hotel FF&E buyer in the UAE need from an art supplier?
A supplier who fits a submittal workflow, delivers a repeated series on schedule and can be finished and hung locally 234825. Dubai fit-out firm Interni describes FF&E procurement as Review, Compare, Track, Handover, with samples and submittals approved against a design standard before orders advance and lead times that 'vary by supplier location' 23. Capsule Arts' Rachael Brown proposes an advisory phase 12–18 months before opening and turnkey execution near completion, and names under-budgeting as the recurring failure 48. Qube Art, the local hotel supplier, offers no minimum order, trade pricing and originals alongside giclée and canvas prints; its framing branches in Dubai, Al Quoz, Abu Dhabi and Yas Mall stretch canvases, and a customer review on its framing page reports AED 100 for installation (2026) 5725. So a rolled canvas can be stretched and hung in either city, and because the local B2B base is print-and-frame houses, hand-painted originals in hotel quantities are the gap (inference) 57.
What iHomeArt can commit to, limited to the verified facts: about one week to paint plus 3–7 days transit, 10–13 days door to door; free insured shipping by DHL, FedEx or USPS; progress photos or video with stage-by-stage approval, which maps onto the submittal step; every piece signed with a certificate of authenticity; minimum order one, volume pricing from ten; rolled, stretched or framed; quotes within one business day. Route risk is real: Wynn Al Marjan's opening slipped when Strait of Hormuz disruption forced rerouted shipments in May 2026, so an FF&E schedule should carry float on the art line 194. Hotels also brief 'sense of place', as when Four Seasons Abu Dhabi commissioned seven bronzes by an Emirati artist, one per emirate; a foreign studio is more likely to be asked for desert, sea and palette-matched abstraction than for local-narrative pieces (inference) 73.
Which catalogue cuts fit a UAE hotel or restaurant brief?
The documented palettes are blue, green, white and neutrals with gold at Atlantis The Royal; soft neutrals with gold and indigo at Marsa Al Arab; sand and neutral at One&Only One Za'abeel and Mandarin Oriental Downtown; terracotta and sand at the desert resorts 16381168180169. The cuts below are live counts from the 1,455-work catalogue filtered to those palettes and to the sizes hotel walls need: 106 panoramic formats and every work listed to 250 cm or more, all of which can be painted larger, with palette variations for room-by-room repetition.
From the catalogue

An illustrative schedule built from catalogue references, not a client project. Every piece would be painted to the wall's own dimensions.

Questions buyers in United Arab Emirates ask
- Who supplies the art for hotels in Dubai and Abu Dhabi?
- Art consultancies appointed by the owner or designer: Capsule Arts, Artelier, Ophelia, Art Painting Lab, Qube and Signature Projects ME. They set a narrative, engage six to thirty-four artists and deliver hundreds of pieces; large lobby canvases are often painted by a local studio to the consultant's concept 17316382.
- How many artworks does a UAE hotel buy?
- About 1.5 to 3.5 artworks per key in the documented cases (derived). Bab Al Shams took 178 artworks for 115 rooms plus public areas (2023); SO/ Uptown 655 for 188 rooms (2023); Jumeirah Marsa Al Arab 1,518 across all room types (2025) 16916416581.
- Do UAE hotels hang originals or prints?
- Both. Capsule Arts says that in 2012 'most supplied art was poster prints' and an art-consultant scope is now standard in RFPs; local supplier Qube sells originals alongside giclée and canvas prints, and Hotel Indigo Dubai Downtown shows over 200 originals by UAE-based artists 4857326.
- What size does a hotel lobby painting need to be?
- Architectural scale. SO/ Uptown's lobby carries a 10-metre-high work, Address Beach Resort has two large abstract lobby paintings, and a Dubai consultancy says the commonest error is art that is 'too small'. For canvas that means 250–400 cm panoramics or 250 cm verticals 16482115.
- Which subjects are safe for public hotel and restaurant spaces?
- Abstraction, seascape, desert, botanical and calligraphic work dominate the documented packages, and portraits of the rulers are an accepted motif. World Art Dubai's rules exclude nudity, sexual content, religious symbols and political themes, a practical boundary for any public room 16316973316.
- How does made-to-order compare with local delivery times?
- Dubai seller Artecasso delivers ready-framed originals within the UAE in 2–7 days; iHomeArt's verified timeline is about one week to paint plus 3–7 days transit, 10–13 days door to door, with progress photos for stage approval and free insured DHL or FedEx shipping 27.
- Can one design be repeated across 100 rooms without the rooms matching?
- That is how the packages work: Marsa Al Arab's 1,518 pieces came from six artists across seven room types. iHomeArt paints each piece by hand from an approved design in palette variations, at any size, with a minimum order of one and volume pricing from ten 81.
