Monochrome black sculpted plaster relief canvas painting

Broad sweeps of black paste overlap across a tall canvas like sheets of slate stacked at angles, and every raised edge catches the light as a thin pale grey line. The strokes are shortest and most broken in the top half, where they fold over one another; lower down they lengthen into long diagonal blades running from upper right to lower left, with fine ridges fanning out near the base.

There is no second colour at all. What looks like drawing is only light falling on ridges, so the picture shifts with the angle of the lighting more than a coloured canvas would.

Against charcoal or black walls it becomes almost pure texture; on pale grey or warm plaster it stands out as a clear dark slab. A grazing light from above, or a linear LED fitted close to the wall, is what reveals the ridges; without it the surface sinks into one dark tone.
