White sculpted bloom on black textured canvas painting

A single white flower opens across nearly the whole of a square black canvas, its wide, ruffled petals sculpted so high that they seem to lift free of the ground. Fine grooves run from the centre to every frilled edge, and where the edges curl they catch a thin grey shadow. At the heart, pale gold stamens are dabbed on in small raised knots.

One slender stem curves out from beneath the lower left petal and runs out past the lower edge. The black is matte, with faint knife marks in the upper corners, so all the brightness and nearly all the relief belong to the bloom.
