What do Doha's galleries and artists sell, and what does it cost?
Heritage subjects and calligraphic abstraction, mostly under one square metre, from a few hundred dollars for a resident hobbyist to USD 9,000 for an established Qatari name; the galleries themselves publish no prices 2310. The only public price list of any depth is artQart, a Doha marketplace for Qatari, resident and international artists that listed 1,294 works and 903 paintings on 12 September 2026: roughly 880 under USD 500, 238 at USD 500–1,000, 148 at USD 1,000–2,000, 70 at USD 2,000–5,000, 22 at USD 5,000–10,000 and 15 above (the bands overlap slightly, so treat the counts as approximate) 1. Across 786 priced paintings the median asking price was USD 376 (about QAR 1,370 at the pegged 3.64 rate), the interquartile range USD 150–900, and the median price per square metre USD 1,600 (about QAR 5,800), with the middle half between USD 800 and USD 3,333 per m² 2.
Qatari nationals price well above that floor. Ali Dasmal Al Kuwari (born 1979, Qatar Fine Arts Society, 43 works listed) asks USD 9,000 for a 150 × 100 cm 'Souq Waqif', USD 3,288 for a 60 × 80 cm 'Horse' and USD 2,557 for a 60 × 80 cm 'Falcon with Hubara', and takes commissions through the site 3. The six Qatari-national vendors with stock had a median of USD 3,182 per m² (about QAR 11,600), roughly double the platform-wide figure 4. The dearest paintings are by Qatar-based or regional expatriates: Fathi Aref's 280 × 180 cm 'Storm' was read at USD 27,000 and USD 30,000 on the same day, which suggests a discount toggle, and Emad Salehi's 100 × 150 cm 'Vision of the Victory' is USD 12,000 5; the single highest listing is a Keith Haring at USD 45,000 from an Italian gallery vendor, not a local artist 213. The largest seller, Qatar-resident Lebanese painter Fadi Abou Daher, prices 120 × 100 cm canvases at USD 3,180 (about USD 2,650 per m²), with a median of about USD 3,000 per m² across his 61 priced works 6. Discounting is normal: buyers can 'Make an Offer', and 37 of the top 100 priced paintings showed a struck-through price 10–25% higher 4.
Subjects repeat across channels: among 828 marketplace titles, 'horse' appeared 16 times, 'sea' 10, 'flower' 10, 'Doha' 9, 'falcon' 7 and 'Souq' 6, and Katara's early-2026 Qatari solo shows were heritage portraits and nostalgia scenes 12. The Qatar Fine Arts Association's seventh 'Al-Nukhba' exhibition (May–June 2025) showed 47 works by 44 Qatari artists, 38 of them paintings, with no prices announced 11.
The commercial galleries do not quote online. Anima Gallery, 570 m² of beachfront on The Pearl, shows Ali Hassan, Yousef Ahmad and Yasser Al Mulla alongside Botero and Marc Quinn with no prices 10232233. Al Markhiya, 'Qatar's oldest privately owned gallery' at Katara Building 5 and the Fire Station, sells consultancy, commissioning, framing and installation to private and corporate clients without a price list; Alhosh Gallery at Porto Arabia likewise 10234235. Wusum, opened in 2023 for emerging Qatari artists by collector Tariq Al Jaidah, showed only a 'coming soon' page in September 2026, and Al Jaidah says 'we are not yet where we need to be with local collecting' 10105. Qatar Museums' deputy chief executive said in January 2026 that the country still needs 'that commercial driver for art to be stronger' 79.
Auction gives the honest ceiling for Qatari names. Sotheby's estimated pioneer Yousef Ahmad at USD 10,000–15,000 for its October 2014 Doha sale and USD 20,000–30,000 in April 2015 8242. At AlBahie in Doha on 10 February 2026, Hanadi Al Darwish's 100 × 80 cm acrylic was estimated at USD 6,000–8,000 and passed unsold, while Tunisian and Syrian names hammered at USD 22,000–28,000; the house's Hurufiyya sale on 20 May 2026 saw calligraphic lots sell at USD 200–3,000 with many passed 270271274. Art Basel Qatar's first edition (February 2026, 87 galleries, 17,000 visitors) reported a Marlene Dumas at about USD 10 million and Issy Wood paintings at USD 160,000–180,000, with galleries openly aiming at the museums rather than private walls 107256106.
What do the home stores sell, and how big does it go?
Framed prints and printed canvas at QAR 20–500, nothing hand-painted with a Qatar price, no framed print beyond 120 cm and no single printed panel beyond 140 cm 222224227. Read online on 12 September 2026, Homes r Us Qatar listed 148 framed artworks; the dearest was the 80 × 120 cm 'Gesa' at QAR 399 during a 20%-off promotion (regular QAR 499), the largest by area the 90 × 120 cm 'Folks' at QAR 199 (regular QAR 249), and sorting by price confirmed QAR 499 as the category ceiling 222. Its wall-decor new arrivals topped out at the 80 × 120 cm 'Bong' at QAR 279 (regular QAR 349), with 30 × 40 cm framed prints at QAR 47 and printed 40 × 30 cm pieces from QAR 23; every description says framed print or wool texture, none claims paint 223. IKEA Qatar's pictures-and-posters range peaks at QR 225 for the nine-piece PJÄTTERYD canvas set covering 179 × 112 cm, with single 118 × 78 cm canvas prints at QR 155–175, a 140 × 56 cm panel and 90 × 90 cm squares at QR 145, and entry pieces from QR 19.50 for 30 × 40 cm, which works out at about QAR 110–190 per square metre 14224225.

The rest of the chain supply is thinner than the store names suggest. Danube Home's Qatar 'Wall Arts' category returned zero results, and its 70 × 140 cm 'Marrakech Troy Handpainted' piece, the only item labelled hand-painted at any Qatar mass-market retailer, carried no Qatar price or stock 226227. THE One's former Qatar address now redirects to a UAE-only site trading in AED 228. Jarir Bookstore Qatar returns no results for 'wall art'; it sells Winsor & Newton supplies, not finished pictures 246. Home Centre's Qatar app lists over 12,000 products including paintings and wall art with next-day delivery, and Homes r Us offers next-day delivery on orders placed by 2 pm and 14-day returns on unused goods in original packaging 3435. On the same day, Qatar Living classifieds carried a used 'Large Framed White Horse Painting 102 × 79 cm' at QAR 500 and a 'Painting from Home Center' at QAR 50, which is what this tier is worth second-hand 14.
Who else supplies wall art: framers, classifieds, WhatsApp sellers and hotel art consultants
Almost no second-hand market, a small made-to-order layer run over WhatsApp and Instagram, framing and hanging sold as add-ons, and a separate professional channel of consultants who fill hotels by the thousand 2082102350. On OpenSooq Qatar, the Gulf's largest Arabic classifieds app, the printed-pictures category held 4 live listings for the whole country and the fine-art category 2 on 12 September 2026 208. The listings that exist show what informal sellers think Doha will pay: a Leonid Afremov palette-knife painting of 100 × 75 cm with a studio certificate at QAR 36,000 (15 July 2026), the seller stressing raised texture and bright colour 209; an Iran-based seller offering a charcoal Arabian horse at QAR 1,800, a framed 70 × 50 cm charcoal eagle at QAR 1,399 and 'decorative paintings' in custom sizes over WhatsApp (7 August 2026) 210; and a Doha Industrial Area seller offering hand-made abstracts and custom Arabic calligraphy in metallic paints, price on request (19 August 2026) 211. Framer-printer Artfactory Qatar and individual painters advertise framing, canvas prints and made-to-order canvases by direct message at single- or double-digit video views, which suggests this layer trades on referral rather than search 219. Souq Waqif Art Center, where resident artists paint and sell portraits and landscapes from studio-galleries, and Katara are the two walk-in places to meet paintings for sale 221.
Framing and installation are priced apart from the art. artQart quotes framing by dimensions across Box, Flat, Classic, Floating and Half Round profiles in gold, walnut, black, white, light wood, champagne, bronze and mahogany, using per-metre rates whose currency the page does not state 230; its installation service costs QAR 200 per artwork, with a note that very large or heavy works may need additional support 23. Moving one large item within Doha by van costs about QAR 100–250 36.
What buyers complain about is documented only indirectly. The Ministry of Commerce handled 13,408 consumer complaints in the first half of 2026 and tells sellers to disclose final pricing, delivery times and return policies 44; government surveys record that Qatar shoppers distrust local online shops more than international ones, want to 'see and buy', and prize transparent pricing 3940. Commissioned works on the marketplace cannot be returned and buyers rely on progress photos 7. The empty Danube category, the missing Qatar prices and the 'framed print' labels point to one problem: it is hard to see, before paying, what a piece is made of 226227223.
Hotels and corporate campuses buy through a different door. The Ned Doha's 350-plus works by 95 artists, 61 of them Doha-based, were assembled by the consultancy Mathqaf, 60 of them commissioned, including Hassan Manarash's 170 × 235 cm acrylic on canvas 166167. Rosewood Doha's 155 rooms, 162 apartments and 276 residences had their art placed by the consultancy Visto, with Yasser Al Mulla landscapes in the suites 170. Art consultant Neel Shukla's 60-person studio produced and installed about 8,000 works across the Swissôtel Corniche Park Towers over six to seven years 50. Al Markhiya advertises procurement 'from a single statement piece to a full programme of works' and cites pieces supplied to The Ned and the Rixos 214. For offices, Gulf Warehousing Company commissioned 29 oil and acrylic canvases from two VCUarts Qatar students and an alumna in 2021, briefed as abstract paintings that complement the interior, painted in 20 days after eight weeks of concept work 48. These programmes buy in tens, hundreds or thousands at a time, and no retail or marketplace channel above holds that volume in stock 502.
What does a square metre of wall art cost in Qatar?
About QAR 110–520 per m² for framed prints, about QAR 2,900–12,100 per m² for the middle half of marketplace originals, and QAR 19,500–36,400 per m² for gallery-level Qatari and regional names, with a gap of roughly 30 times between the decorative floor and the median original 1423. The figures below are read or computed from the September 2026 listings on this page; per-m² values marked 'computed' are our arithmetic from the listed size and price, and USD is converted at the pegged 3.64 QAR 2.

Three things stand out. First, the per-metre price of originals falls as the canvas grows: the 45 marketplace paintings of one square metre or more had a median asking price of USD 1,650 (about QAR 6,000) for the whole work, so a metre-plus original from a resident artist can cost less than a run of framed prints covering the same wall 2. Second, size itself is scarce rather than expensive: only 16 of 828 paintings had a longest side of 150 cm or more and only three reached 200 cm, and the largest 'hand-painted' item at any chain was 70 × 140 cm with no Qatar price 2227. Third, the top tier is set by names, not by area: the gap between a same-size IKEA print and Ali Dasmal Al Kuwari's Souq Waqif is about 115 times, and a passed auction lot at USD 6,000–8,000 shows that even Qatari names do not always find a buyer at gallery-level prices 2271. For scale, turnkey interior fit-out in Qatar is quoted from about QAR 500 per m² of floor, so a metre of marketplace original costs roughly ten times a metre of basic fit-out, and a metre of framed print costs less than one 1252222.
Where do made-to-order originals fit?
In the band the local market barely stocks: hand-painted canvases from one to three metres, in the neutral, desert and Gulf-blue palettes the new villas and hotels use, in quantities from one to several hundred 217150. The gap is precise. Marketplace supply at one square metre and above is 45 works with a median price of USD 1,650, and at 200 cm it is three works 2. The chains stop at 120 cm single panels and call their goods prints 222224. The galleries sell commissions without a price list 10234. Hotels that want hundreds of pieces hire consultants who produce them, and the one Doha office programme with a published process took eight weeks of concept plus 20 days of painting for 29 canvases 5048. The nearest local benchmark for a made-to-order painting is artQart's commission service: budget stated by the buyer, price negotiated with the artist, a non-refundable deposit of 30–50%, progress photos through the platform, no returns, and no published per-metre rate for a two-metre canvas by a Qatari artist 7.
iHomeArt sits in that band as a trade channel rather than a gallery. It is the trade arm of Siji Art Hub in Foshan, China, with 1,455 original hand-painted works in eight styles, painted to order in any size, including formats over 2 m and panoramic proportions, with palette changes possible; there are no prints and no stock. Painting takes about one week and transit three to seven days, so a piece reaches Doha or Lusail in roughly 10–13 days door to door, shipped free and insured by DHL, FedEx or USPS. DHL Express into Qatar accepts single pieces up to 120 × 80 × 80 cm and 70 kg, which suggests canvases above that length travel rolled around the short side for local stretching, or as freight 20. Every work is signed with a certificate of authenticity, progress photos or video are sent for stage-by-stage approval, the minimum order is one piece with volume pricing from ten, finishes are rolled, stretched or framed in gold, silver, black, white or wood, quotes come within one business day and there are no public prices; its painters train inside the hub's programme of more than 50 exhibitions. Against the local benchmark, a Qatar buyer will notice the approval stages before the balance is paid, the absence of a size ceiling, and the absence of a Qatari signature, which matters at the collector and auction tiers and matters less for the majlis wall, the hotel corridor or the boardroom, where the published Doha brief was 'abstract, complementing the interior decor' 48171.
Where it does not fit is equally clear. A buyer who wants a Qatari name for provenance or resale should go to Al Markhiya, Anima, artQart's Qatari directory or AlBahie, and expect USD 3,000–6,000 per m² and upward, no published prices and occasional unsold lots 43271. A buyer dressing a rental apartment on The Pearl at QAR 500 a picture is served by Homes r Us and IKEA 222224. The made-to-order case is the wall between those two: the 150 m² panelled majlis, the double-height reception of a Giardino villa, the 15 m corporate lobby, the hotel corridor programme counted in thousands of pieces 2041464950.

Questions buyers in Qatar ask
- What does an original painting cost in Qatar?
- On artQart, Qatar's marketplace for resident artists, the median asking price across 786 priced paintings was USD 376 (about QAR 1,370) on 12 September 2026, with the middle half between USD 150 and 900; works of a square metre or more had a median of USD 1,650. Qatari-national artists ask about double per square metre 24.
- Do Doha's galleries publish prices?
- No. Anima Gallery on The Pearl, Al Markhiya at Katara and the Fire Station, and Alhosh at Porto Arabia all show artists without prices and sell consultancy and commissions on request; the public price points come from the online marketplace and from auction estimates such as USD 6,000–8,000 for a 100 × 80 cm Hanadi Al Darwish 10234235271.
- How large is the biggest painting I can buy off the shelf in Qatar?
- Small. Only three marketplace paintings reached 200 cm and 16 reached 150 cm on 12 September 2026; Homes r Us stops at 120 cm framed prints (the dearest 80 × 120 cm at QAR 399), IKEA at a 140 × 56 cm single panel and a 179 × 112 cm nine-piece set, and Danube Home’s 70 × 140 cm ‘hand-painted’ piece carried no Qatar price 2222224227.
- What are home-store 'canvases' actually made of?
- Framed prints and printed canvas. Homes r Us describes all 148 of its framed artworks as prints, IKEA's PJÄTTERYD range is printed canvas at QR 19.50–225, and the single 'hand-painted' item found at a mass-market chain is listed as PS, wood and canvas at AED 259 on the UAE site 222225227.
- Is there a second-hand market for paintings in Qatar?
- Effectively no. OpenSooq Qatar held four live wall-art listings and two fine-art listings for the whole country on 12 September 2026, and the exceptions are outliers such as a studio-certified Leonid Afremov at QAR 36,000; buyers go to retailers, galleries or made-to-order sellers 208209.
- Where can I see paintings for sale in person in Doha?
- Souq Waqif Art Center, where resident artists paint and sell from studio-galleries, and Katara Cultural Village, home to Al Markhiya (Building 5) and the Qatar Fine Arts Association (Building 13) 22123411; Anima Gallery on La Croisette and Alhosh at Porto Arabia Tower 1, both on The Pearl 232235; and artQart’s own room on the second floor of M7 in Msheireb, opened in August 2024 212.
- What terms should I expect when commissioning a painting locally?
- artQart's commission service, the closest public benchmark in Qatar, asks the buyer to state a budget and deadline, takes a non-refundable deposit of 30–50%, sends progress photos through its messaging system, collects the balance on completion and accepts no returns; no per-metre rate is published 7.
