How big is Oman's hotel pipeline, and who supplies the art?
28 projects and 4,789 rooms by the end of 2027, across Muscat, Salalah, Duqm and the interior, with the art on the two 2024 flagships credited to named Omani artists and international names rather than to any Omani supplier 98102137. The July 2026 count names a 251-key beachfront Voco in Muscat, the 121-key Anantara Bandar Al Khairan, a Waldorf Astoria Muscat converted from a clifftop Hilton, Oman's first Rixos in Salalah, five TUI properties adding about 2,000 rooms in Salalah and a USD 480 million mixed-use scheme in Duqm 98. Muriya plans about 1,000 further rooms at Hawana Salalah and Jebel Sifah within three to five years, on top of more than 1,000 existing there (September 2026) 99. Around Muscat, AIDA is planned with two hotels totalling 450 rooms, Nikki Beach at Yiti Bay with 140 rooms and 30 private-pool villas (opening date disputed between two 2024 sources), and OMRAN lists a Club Med in Musandam 106105110. Al Mouj's developer counts seven hotels, listing Kempinski and Mysk as open and St. Regis, Okura and voco as under way 154 — although the St. Regis itself opened in June 2024 102, so the developer page is out of date on that point.
The 2024 openings set the design register: Mandarin Oriental, Muscat (150 keys, interiors by Xavier Cartron) is entered through Omani wooden doors, with headboards referencing the kuma cap and lanterns the khanjar; the St. Regis Al Mouj (250 rooms, interiors by Smallwood) uses oceanic tones, tan and local stone; Hotel Indigo Jabal Akhdar (173 rooms) is decorated to 'echo the colours and textures of the mountains'; Jumeirah Muscat Bay calls its interiors 'modern arabesque' 100102105138. The common brief is heritage reinterpreted, not international modernism (inference) 100102138.
Who supplies it. Bait Muzna's art consultancy lists Marriott Salalah (2009, 237 rooms), Millennium Mussanah (2010–11, 234 rooms and 104 apartments), Millennium Qurum (2016, 270 rooms, corridors and public areas), Anantara Jebel Akhdar (2016, 33 villas and 80 rooms), Mysk Al Mouj (2017, 193 rooms and corridors), Hormuz, Sheraton and W Hotel, and mixes originals with 'high-quality reproductions' and large-format inkjet printing 33. Its gallery closed in March 2025; consultancy and framing continue by appointment 7. Stal Gallery markets a hotel-artworks line (concept, commissioning, framing, packing, transport) but names no client; in October 2025 it ran live painting by Anwar Sonya in the Aloft Muscat lobby 3435. Artelier (UK/UAE) lists Oman among its markets and Dubai's Art Painting Lab advertises GCC hospitality projects including Oman 4344. No hotel in Oman was found naming the supplier of its corridor or room-tier artwork 102.
What scale do the lobby, guest rooms, corridors, restaurants and spa need?
Lobbies and bars get the named commissions; corridors and rooms get thematic runs, which is where repetition and scale are decided 101102. At Mandarin Oriental, Muscat the lobby holds Dina Hammadi's woven brass-and-bronze 'Gilded Harmony' and Alia Al Farsi's friezes of figures in local dress, the corridors carry pastel-pink oils on the Jebel Akhdar rose harvest, and the rooms use sea-blue and dune schemes 101. At the St. Regis Al Mouj the bar holds an 'expansive' Hassan Meer mural of Muttrah, and the collection mixes six Omani artists, including calligrapher Fahad Al Balushi, with international names such as Arne Quinze and Rana Begum 102137. Neither property publishes dimensions or names who made the corridor and guestroom pieces 101102.
- Lobby and reception. The largest Omani canvas listed for sale in Muscat is 160 cm on the long side at OMR 3,850, and the same gallery's 170 × 500 cm and 171 × 216 cm works are price on request (September 2026), so a lobby-scale original is a commission either way 42. Mandarin Oriental's ballroom is 800 m² and Mövenpick Ghala's 630 m² (2024); end walls at that floor area take 3–4 m (118–157 in) works (inference) 100105.
- Guest rooms and suites. A package is bought per room: 237, 234, 270 and 193 rooms in the four largest projects on Bait Muzna's list, and the 2024 flagships brief room art by palette, not by artist 33101102. iHomeArt paints every work to order with palette changes and variations, so a 70-room run can share one composition in three or four hand-painted variants rather than a reproduction, each signed with a certificate of authenticity.
- Villas and cottages. Anantara Bandar Al Khairan is 46 cottages and 24 villas, Nikki Beach adds 30 private-pool villas, Anantara Jebel Akhdar has 33 villas, and Tivoli La Vie adds 8 villas and 100 serviced apartments to about 80 hotel rooms 10610533107. A villa unit has a living wall as well as a headboard wall, so the per-key count is two or three pieces (inference) 106.
- Corridors. Mandarin Oriental runs one regional theme in one palette along the corridor, and Millennium Qurum and Mysk Al Mouj bought corridors as a line item 10133. A corridor series suits 60–90 cm (24–35 in) verticals in a family of related canvases (inference).
- Spa. Hotel Indigo Jabal Akhdar's spa is 3,000 m² with décor keyed to mountain colour and texture, and Muscat's leading gallery shows muted, textured, earth-toned canvases in textile, jute and impasto as a live local idiom, which is the spa register 1055133.
What do Oman's restaurants and cafés hang?
The hotel restaurants documented in Muscat are branded imports with their own design contract, and outside the hotels the café projects found are turnkey fit-out jobs in which no contractor mentions art 1031047067. Oman's foodservice market was valued at USD 1.63 billion in 2025 (Mordor, May 2026), with full-service restaurants at 45.88% of revenue and independents at 56.62%; two 2026 editions of the same report disagree on the forecast, so treat the size as indicative 109. The St. Regis Al Mouj opened with nine dining concepts, and its Hakkasan is the group's twelfth restaurant, built to the group's signature design 102103. The Kitchen at Kempinski Al Mouj was designed by HBA Dubai across 220 m² indoors and 140 m² outdoors 104. Across these venues the one documented painted commission is the Muttrah mural in the St. Regis bar 102.
Beyond the hotels, Revina Decoration lists Sohar Coffee Shop and Nasaq Cafe among its Muscat projects, and BMTC counts F&B among its 500-plus claimed projects and describes a 2–4 month cycle with 6–12 weeks of execution (February 2026); neither mentions art sourcing 7067. Mural painter Saba Merati takes commissions across the Sultanate with no published prices (July 2026) 45. The 2025 palette a Muscat fit-out firm reports, terracotta, sand, olive and warm neutrals with emerald, sapphire and rust accents over fluted panels and matte stone, is the background a canvas sits against 142. That suggests a café or restaurant wall is specified in the last 6–12 weeks of a fit-out, when a 10–13 day painted-to-order lead time fits inside the execution window (inference) 67.
What does a hotel FF&E buyer in Oman need from an art supplier?
Sourcing, framing, transport and installation in one contract, an 'inspired by Oman' brief, proof that a canvas is hand-painted, and delivery inside a 6–12 week execution window: that is what the two Muscat consultancies bundle and the fit-out cycle demands 333467.
- Brief and subjects. Bait Muzna sources 'international artists who are inspired by Oman' for hotels, and the 39 paintings chosen for Muscat International Airport (2018) each had to 'reflect Omani identity' 3337. The Royal Court's 200-plus commissions since 2007 are realist landscapes, forts, oryx, horses and camels, so animal and figurative subjects hang in state buildings 36. The recorded sensitivity is nudity and the female body, not figuration; women in traditional dress and faceless figures are the accepted modes 13653.
- Proof of originality. 'Handpainted' is a mass-retail label in Muscat at OMR 22 for 80 × 120 cm (Danube Home, September 2026), and 2XL Home sells 250 × 150 cm canvases at OMR 169–206 with no hand-painted claim 12117. A buyer of originals therefore needs the artist's signature, a certificate and stage-by-stage photos, which iHomeArt supplies with every piece.
- Price reference. Stal Gallery's posted band is OMR 320–3,850 with mid-range works at OMR 1,000–1,700, and nothing above 160 cm is stocked 4153. A Qurum expat studio lists OMR 60–210 for 40–90 cm originals, and a September 2026 OpenSooq listing offers a 185 × 150 cm oil at OMR 700 pitched at 'villas, majlis, hotels, offices' 11111. Muscat Art's exhibitor guidance is to price in OMR plus USD or EUR 114. iHomeArt publishes no prices, quotes within one business day, and volume pricing starts at 10 pieces.
- Logistics. Muscat Cargo (Ghala and Salalah) lists artwork among its white-glove deliveries (May 2025), BrightLink covers Muscat, Salalah, Sohar, Nizwa, Sur and Duqm, and Asyad Express caps international parcels at 30 kg, so large stretched canvases go by DHL or FedEx 272829. Interior governorates carry about 50% higher last-mile cost than Muscat (Mordor, 2026), and one Muscat furniture chain excludes Salalah and Jebel Akhdar from delivery, which matters for the Salalah and mountain resorts 1825. iHomeArt ships free and insured by DHL, FedEx or USPS, rolled, stretched or framed, about 10–13 days door to door.
- Ordering habits. No Omani source describes how hotel or designer art orders are placed; the points above are the consultancies' service lists and fit-out timelines, not documented practice 32.
Which catalogue cuts fit an Omani hotel or restaurant brief?
Sea blue and dune sand, tan and stone, mountain colour and texture, rose pastels, and abstraction that encodes tribal, maritime and desert symbols rather than pure colour field: the palettes the 2024 openings and the Muscat gallery record put on hotel walls 1011021055133. The leading Muscat gallery's 2025 summer show paired saturated heritage scenes with muted textile and jute canvases, and the St. Regis palette is oceanic tones, tan and stone, so both a bold and a muted register are in use 133102. Counts are live; every work can be painted larger than its listed sizes, and the 250 cm cuts are the lobby and ballroom brief.

Questions buyers in Oman ask
- How many hotel rooms are in Oman's pipeline?
- 28 projects with 4,789 rooms due by the end of 2027 (July 2026), including a 251-key Voco in Muscat, the 121-key Anantara Bandar Al Khairan and about 2,000 TUI rooms in Salalah; Muriya plans about 1,000 more at Hawana Salalah and Jebel Sifah (September 2026) 9899.
- Who supplies the art for hotels in Oman?
- Bait Muzna's consultancy lists nine named Omani hotel projects dated 2009–2019 and continues after its gallery closed in March 2025; Stal Gallery offers a hotel line but names no client; Dubai consultancies advertise Oman. No hotel was found naming its room-tier supplier 3373444102.
- Do Omani hotels hang figurative or abstract art?
- Both. The St. Regis Al Mouj and Mandarin Oriental, Muscat hang figures in local dress and a Muttrah mural 102101, while National Geographic (December 2024) says the younger scene favours abstraction over figurative work in line with Islamic tradition 136; the documented controversy concerns the depiction of women 53. A hotel brief can follow either register.
- How many pieces does a hotel villa, cottage or suite need?
- More than one per key. Anantara Bandar Al Khairan is 46 cottages and 24 villas, Anantara Jebel Akhdar has 33 villas beside 80 rooms, and Nikki Beach adds 30 private-pool villas 10633105; a villa unit has a living wall as well as a headboard wall, so budget two or three pieces per villa key against one per standard room — an inference from the unit types, since no Omani hotel publishes its art count.
- Are hotel art packages in Oman originals or reproductions?
- Mixed. Bait Muzna's hotel consultancy offers originals alongside 'high-quality reproductions' and large-format inkjet printing, and 'handpainted' is a retail label at OMR 22 for 80 × 120 cm at Danube Home (September 2026), so buyers of originals ask for signatures, certificates and progress photos 3312.
- Can guest-room art repeat across floors without two rooms matching?
- Mandarin Oriental, Muscat runs one theme along its corridors and briefs rooms by palette rather than by artist 101. iHomeArt paints each work to order with palette changes and variations, so one composition becomes a family of signed hand-painted variants, each with its own certificate.
- Do Salalah and mountain resorts get the same delivery as Muscat?
- Not from every local supplier. One Muscat furniture chain excludes Salalah and Jebel Akhdar, and interior governorates carry about 50% higher last-mile cost (2026); Muscat Cargo has a Salalah office and BrightLink lists Salalah, Nizwa and Duqm for white-glove delivery 25182728.
