What do Saudi galleries and artists sell, and what does it cost?
Galleries sell on request, one Riyadh luxury retailer lists named Saudi painters at SAR 8,000–120,000 a canvas, Sotheby's two Diriyah sales set the top of the market, and work by living, lesser-known artists sits at SAR 300–2,000 in the small-format shows and roughly US$200–11,000 on the international marketplaces. The main commercial galleries publish no prices: ATHR (Jeddah 2009, now also AlUla and Riyadh's JAX district) has a basket but no prices, Hafez Gallery in Jeddah (2014, 18+ artists) sells by 'Artwork Inquiry', Gallery Naila (Riyadh, 2012) courts corporate and government projects without listing artists or prices, and L'Art Pur (1999, 540 m²) and 015 Gallery (2016) give none either 318319320322. Prices were visible on the stands of the 32 galleries at the inaugural Art Week Riyadh (April 2025), where the Coollect initiative offered works at SAR 500–8,000 to first-time buyers 2830. A Saudi art advisory told Arab News in March 2026 that most of the market 'happens privately, off auction, with no public price at all' and that some buyers overpay by 15–20% 5.
The open price points come from one store and the auctions. Papillon (Riyadh) lists the pioneer Abdullah Hammas at SAR 120,000 (150 × 180 cm) and SAR 110,000 (205 × 175 cm), Mohammed Farea at SAR 45,000 (100 × 175 cm), Fahd Al-Naymah at SAR 8,000 (41 × 28 cm), and contemporary 'NMR Fine Art' works from a 150 × 150 cm Sultan Al Ryad at SAR 20,000 to a 273 × 231 cm Qays Al Sendi at SAR 70,000 (product feed, 11 September 2026) 11. Sotheby's first Saudi sale (Diriyah, February 2025) totalled US$17.3 million with almost a third of buyers Saudi; Mohammed Al Saleem's 1977 oil (100 × 120 cm) made US$660,000 against a US$180,000–250,000 estimate and Abdulhalim Radwi's 1984 market scene US$264,000 21315. The second sale (31 January 2026) totalled US$19.56 million, Safeya Binzagr's 1968 'Coffee Shop in Madina Road' made US$2.06 million, a Saudi record, and all nine Saudi lots sold for a combined US$4.3 million against a US$1.1 million high estimate 4316. A Radwi still life estimated at US$10,000–15,000 at Christie’s in 2008 compares with Radwi results above US$200,000 today 5.
Below the names, original paintings are small and inexpensive. Atelier Jeddah's 'A Painting in Every Home' (18th edition, December 2025, 100 artists) caps prices at SAR 300–2,000, and the small-painting exhibitions run by the arts societies and private galleries show works no larger than 50 cm at under SAR 1,500 2526. The same Al-Jazirah column (June 2025) says the household relationship with art 'is still taking shape' and that a painting is often seen as decoration next to gold or shares, which contradicts the eager young-collector picture reported from the auctions 2628. On the marketplaces, Saatchi Art's Saudi page lists 414 works, page-one originals from US$214 to US$11,440 (median about US$1,960, roughly US$3,900 per m²), and Singulart's Saudi-based painter Ganna Alyousif prices botanical oils at about US$570–3,110, for example 76 × 61 cm at US$1,390 1821. What sold above estimate was calligraphic desert abstraction (Al Saleem), figurative street and market scenes (Radwi, Binzagr) and Najd-heritage assemblage (Malluh) 31599, and Christie's Saudi managing director says younger buyers 'start with what's close to home', Saudi artists, before international names 123.
What do the home stores sell, and how big does it go?
Printed and factory 'hand-painted' canvas at SAR 59–999, studio-painted acrylics at about SAR 1,000–7,000 from the design-led e-tailers, and one Riyadh store selling made-in-Europe panels from SAR 6,110; nothing stocked at a chain is longer than 200 cm. The table lists what the stores were selling online on 11–12 September 2026 3303313343353291133332732812297299300. Home Centre's site blocks automated re-checks, so its rows are as captured on 12 September; the same Yumn canvas is listed at AED 399 on the retailer's UAE site, so treat its SAR 799 as a capture rather than a verified list price 335.

Read the medium column carefully. Home Centre's 'hand-painted' Yumn and Jihan are canvas stretched over polystyrene, 5 cm deep 335; every Bloomr listing, including its SAR 176 UV prints, carries the note 'each painting is individually handmade' 327; and a Saudi print brand's own price guide puts the local range at hundreds of riyals for larger ready-made pieces and over SAR 1,000 only for special finishes or professional frames 14. Size stops early: Bloomr's 880-item collection filters up to 200 × 100 cm with portrait orientation dominant (617 items), its largest acrylic is 150 × 200 cm, Home Centre tops out at 200 × 150 cm and IKEA at a 179 × 112 cm nine-piece set 327334330. The print shops' own sizing guides define 'extra-large' as anything over 100 cm, and a majlis guide recommends 85 × 120 to 135 × 185 cm and a canvas of about 75% of the wall width, which for the roughly 5 m longest wall of a 26 m² ROSHN majlis would be about 3.75 m, a size none of these stores lists (derived) 29083150.
What the mass market buys is calligraphy, landscape, abstract and, openly, horses. Lowha says its best-sellers are religious pieces, landscapes, moral sayings and name boards, plus anime designs, each in about eight sizes 292; Fayafi Najd's 4,000-design catalogue leads with Islamic and Arabic calligraphy, abstract, gold-themed works, Arabian horses, florals and city views 296; Shamaat Al-Manzil's menu runs Islamic, abstract, modern, bohemian, roses, Saudi heritage, animals and nature and 'feminine features' boards in vertical, horizontal, triptych and panoramic formats 88; and Mesaky's large-painting guide names Arabic calligraphy with gold or silver accents, bold abstracts, nature, Asir heritage architecture and horses, in 'calm earthy tones' of beige, sand and light brown 84.
Who else supplies wall art: importers, marketplace sellers, framers and classifieds
Imports arrive at both ends, European panels and gallery pieces at the top and Chinese factory canvases through Amazon.sa at the bottom, and the recorded complaints are about what turns up at the door: 'just fabric', no frame, not as described. Modassic in Jeddah (2007) began by importing art and accessories from European brands and galleries before moving into villa and palace fit-out 132; Mille in Riyadh sells hand-painted panels made in Europe at 220 × 150 cm from SAR 6,110 with 6–14 weeks' delivery 297. Cross-border sales are over 60% of Saudi online spending, and Temu, Shein, AliExpress and Amazon hold five of the top six shopping-app slots (February 2025) 3940. On Amazon.sa, 'hand painted oil painting large canvas' is led by Chinese-made florals and abstracts at roughly SAR 184–1,622: amatop's plum-blossom canvas at SAR 319 with 3,187 ratings, its 152.4 × 76.2 cm beach scene at SAR 324, and Yihui Arts' 50 × 100 cm textured floral at SAR 568, shipped from outside the Kingdom 301332. The plain 'hand painted oil painting canvas' query is dominated by paint-by-numbers kits at SAR 32–113, and the Arabic majlis-calligraphy query returns printed canvases at SAR 60–197, with 100 × 150 cm at SAR 187–197 332301.
The complaints. Reviews of the imported hand-painted canvases are almost all from the United States, the United Kingdom and Egypt, so a Saudi buyer is reading other markets' experience 301. Where Saudi reviewers do write, a 40.6 × 61 cm calligraphy print drew one star for arriving 'without a frame, just fabric' (July 2025) and another item one star for being 'not as described, not honest' (March 2026) 301. At the top end the complaint is opacity: buyers overpay 15–20% without market intelligence, regional artists trade at 15–30% of Western peers with the same museum representation, and Saudi artists told Al-Watan in 2022 that weak local auctions push them to sell abroad 527.
Framers, installers and classifieds. No standalone framer's price list surfaced in this research; framing is bundled by the sellers, with frames in black, white, wood, champagne, gold, beige and silver at the print shops 83. Zaitia (Riyadh, 8 years, 150+ interior design offices) delivers and installs in Riyadh, takes project and wholesale orders and guarantees its hand-painted colours will not change 12; Lowha sells a customisable hand-painted piece from SAR 319 by WhatsApp 13; Maha Home makes hand-painted pieces to order (sizes from 130 × 105 cm) in one month 15; IKEA's SAR 99–299 assembly service explicitly excludes securing items to the wall 43. On the classifieds site Haraj, amateur canvases list at SAR 200–1,000 (a 70 × 50 cm acrylic at SAR 1,000, a 160 × 60 cm glass painting at SAR 600, September 2026), sellers paint from a customer's photo in all sizes, and the store Fayafi Najd advertises custom and ready-made large canvases in 'all sizes' with free national shipping 1617294.
What does a square metre of wall art cost in Saudi Arabia?
Roughly SAR 125–1,100 per m² in decorative retail, SAR 750–3,300 per m² from the local hand-painted studios and design e-tailers, and about SAR 9,000–70,000 per m² for named Saudi painters at retail, with auction far above that: a spread of several hundred times between the cheapest print and the cheapest pioneer canvas (computed from listings of September 2026) 3013301232711. The middle tier is thin, and everything in it is 200 cm or shorter from stock 327334297.

Two things follow from the table. First, the per-m² rate falls with size in the decorative and local tiers (Home Centre's 200 × 150 cm 'Jihan' is SAR 333 per m² against SAR 520 for an 80 × 120 cm 'Thera'), which suggests the big pieces are made the same way as the small ones and priced to move furniture-store volume, not to reward the labour of a larger painting 334335. Second, the named-artist tier is priced by name and scarcity rather than area: the smallest work on Papillon's feed, a 41 × 28 cm Al-Naymah, carries the highest rate per m² 11. A third data point points the same way: Atelier Jeddah's small-format show sells works by 100 Saudi and Arab artists, veterans such as Abdullah Idris among them, at SAR 300–2,000, so a known name's price per m² can be low precisely because the canvas is small 2524.
Where do made-to-order originals fit?
Above 200 cm, which no chain or e-tailer stocks, and in the lead-time gap between a furniture store's delivery and the 6–14 weeks a Riyadh showroom quotes for a custom 220 × 150 cm panel 327334297. The walls that need those sizes — a 5 m majlis wall in a ROSHN villa, 6–7 m viewing distances in Jeddah living rooms, 6–10 reception walls in a SAR 10 million-plus Riyadh house — are measured on the villas and size guide pages 150162155. The local majlis guides ask for a canvas of about 75% of the wall width, then sell nothing above 135 × 185 cm (53 × 73 in) 83.
Hospitality and corporate buyers already commission at this scale, but mostly through Dubai consultancies and in mixed media. The published programmes — 491 works at Kimpton KAFD, 1,500+ custom pieces at W Riyadh — are detailed on the hotels page; painting is one medium among many in them, with Saudi artists a third to a half of each roster 54185191. Where a brief requires Saudi authorship, as the Social Development Bank's Art Bank programme does for its branches and as the hotel rosters do for their Saudi share, a studio abroad is not a substitute, and this page does not pretend otherwise 5054.
What iHomeArt can verifiably offer against that map. iHomeArt, the trade channel of Siji Art Hub in Foshan, holds 1,455 original hand-painted canvases, each painted to order in any size; the catalogue lists sizes up to 254 cm, every work can be painted larger, 106 are panoramic, and palette changes are possible. Lead time is about one week to paint plus 3–7 days in transit, 10–13 days door to door, against the 6–14 weeks quoted locally for a custom panel and one month for a made-to-order piece (sizes from 130 × 105 cm) 29715. Shipping is free and insured by DHL, FedEx or USPS; every piece is signed with a certificate of authenticity; progress photos or video allow stage-by-stage approval; the minimum order is one piece with volume pricing from ten; finishes are rolled, stretched or framed in gold, silver, black, white or wood, the finish palette the Saudi print shops also offer 83. There are no public prices and quotes come within one business day, so iHomeArt cannot be placed on the per-m² table above; a buyer should ask for a quote at the size the wall needs and set it against the SAR 750–3,300 per m² local hand-painted tier and the SAR 9,000-plus named-artist tier. On subject, the low-risk defaults for a formal majlis, corporate reception or gift are calligraphy, landscape, abstract and heritage architecture, with figurative and animal work offered on request for private rooms, an inference from the published fatwa position on one side and the horses and female faces the retailers and auctions openly sell on the other 778883100. The palettes the sources name are beige, sand and light brown for the majlis, jewel tones for an art-led majlis, and sand, stone and earth neutrals for the Red Sea and AlUla resorts 8384111347.

Questions buyers in Saudi Arabia ask
- Do Saudi galleries publish prices?
- No. ATHR, Hafez Gallery, Gallery Naila, L'Art Pur and 015 Gallery all sell by enquiry, and a Saudi art advisory says most of the market trades privately with no public price at all. Price lists were visible on stands at Art Week Riyadh in April 2025 318319320322528.
- What does an original by a known Saudi painter cost?
- At a Riyadh luxury retailer, SAR 8,000 for a 41 × 28 cm Fahd Al-Naymah to SAR 120,000 for a 150 × 180 cm Abdullah Hammas (September 2026). At Sotheby's Diriyah, Saudi lots ran from US$84,000 to US$2.06 million (2025–2026) 1124.
- What is the largest painting I can buy off the shelf in Riyadh or Jeddah?
- Home Centre's 200 × 150 cm 'Jihan' hand-painted abstract at SAR 999, Bloomr's 150 × 200 cm 'Eskpi' acrylic at SAR 7,013, or Mille's 220 × 150 cm made-in-Europe panel from SAR 6,110 with 6–14 weeks' delivery and custom sizes to 300 cm (September 2026) 334327297.
- Is 'hand-painted' at the home stores really hand-painted?
- Sometimes. Home Centre's hand-painted Yumn and Jihan are canvas over polystyrene, 5 cm deep; Bloomr labels every listing, including SAR 176 UV prints, 'individually handmade'; Lowha's own price guide puts local prices above SAR 1,000 only for special finishes or professional frames 33532714.
- What do buyers complain about with imported canvases?
- Delivery condition and honesty. Saudi one-star reviews on Amazon.sa say a calligraphy canvas arrived 'without a frame, just fabric' (July 2025) and another was 'not as described' (March 2026); most reviews of the Chinese-made hand-painted listings come from the US, UK and Egypt, not Saudi Arabia 301.
- How long does a custom-size painting take from a local seller?
- Mille in Riyadh quotes 6–14 weeks for its 60–300 cm custom panels; Maha Home quotes one month for a made-to-order hand-painted piece (sizes from 130 × 105 cm); Zaitia and Lowha take custom orders by WhatsApp without a published lead time. iHomeArt's verified time is about 10–13 days door to door 297151213.
- What does a square metre of wall art cost in Saudi Arabia?
- Computed from September 2026 listings: about SAR 125–1,100 per m² in decorative retail (an Amazon.sa printed canvas at SAR 125, Home Centre’s 200 × 150 cm canvas at SAR 333), SAR 750–3,300 per m² from local hand-painted studios and design e-tailers, and SAR 9,000–70,000 per m² for named Saudi painters at retail 3013341232711. Named-artist prices follow the name, not the area.
